Blubber Be Gone!

by Rachel on January 12, 2010

I reallllllllly want to lose weight this year.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m certainly not obese or anything close to it, but seriously, I hate getting on the scale and seeing a number in the 160s.  I know, I know, it’s just a number, but I don’t like it. I LOVE my Wii Fit, but I am to the point that I hate weighing myself with it…I know it’s silly, but that is how I feel.

Luckily, I am not short (5’8″), and I don’t have a small frame, so I can hide things fairly well ( I carry most of my weight in the hips/booty area, which is pretty easy to hide). HOWEVER, I still think that 145 or so would be a good weight for me. I’m not skinny at that weight, but the last time I was that weight I was pretty trim.   I don’t want to be skinny, because I don’t think that is a good look for me (or really anyone for that matter).  I just want to look fit.

I had lost a pretty good amount of weight at the beginning of the school year…but school really wore me out towards the end of the semester. I was teaching in the morning and going to class until 6 at night, which meant that I was leaving my house shortly after 7 am and not coming back until after 6…most of the time I was so beat that I would just eat whatever was fast.  Then of course the Holidays rolled around and I gained some more weight (which is fine…I want to eat whatever I want during Christmas!).

I looove swimming, and my school has a fabulous, heated indoor pool, so I am going to start taking advantage of that again. The gym also offers yoga classes that are a blast, and I think I will actually have time to stick with them this semester.

I’m hoping to have lost at least 10 lbs by my college graduation, which is May 9th…I don’t think that’s so unobtainable.  That would be a weight loss of about 2lbs per month, which I think is reasonable.

Have any of you had any success with losing weight and keeping it away? What did you do?

I had A LOT of success with Weight Watchers – it’s pretty cheap if you do it online. Unfortunately, then I started eating like crap again and did myself no favors. But it’ll definitely work for you.

Drinking lots of water helps. If you drink regular soda, switch to diet, or try to cut out altogether.
One thing that worked well for me was switching from coffee to tea – with tea I don’t need sugar or cream, but still get the caffeine I need.

Other useful things – keeping healthy snacks around. I always get pretzels or Wheat Thins or something like that, and put them in the little snack bag ziploc baggies right away – that way I can take a bunch to work and not worry about heading to the vending machine when I need something to munch on :-)

10 lbs is DEFINITELY attainable! You can do it! I’m hoping to lose at least 20 by my 10 year reunion in August – hopefully more. Healthy weight loss is ~2 lbs a week, so I think we both should do well :-)

If you need any encouragement, just harass me! Good luck!

Thanks!
I will definitely bug you :)
I’m counting on student teaching to keep me uber-occupied and AWAY from the fridge this semester, so that should help. D and I are planning on going to Florida this summer, so there is another incentive.
