We were blessed with 2 snow days this week (and I said blessed because, although I love my Kindergartners, a day off is a day off), but there was still plenty of time for cuteness.
Here you go:
J: “Miss April, Miss April, I need help!”- This kid KNOWS my name is Rachel, but insists on Miss April. Who knows? I don’t mind though, because it is cute.

One day during guidance, we watched a video on gun safety (as in, not touching guns, not the correct way to use them). After the video, every kid wanted a chance to talk about how their PopPop has a gun, or their big brother does and he is going to take them deer hunting. However, I had to bite my lip and turn my head at this gem:
E (who is a little different, not in a bad way, but just quirky): “Well one time I saw a gun and I told my dad and he threw it out the window and my dog caught it and gave it to some birds and they flew away with it.
Another day this week I was grading some papers when E came up to me:
E: “Miss Rachel, can I ask you something?”
Me: “Sure, E, go ahead.”
E: “Well, I was wondering if you would like to come to my birthday party.”
Me: “Sure, sounds like a blast, what should I wear?” (Note: Am fairly certain that E’s birthday is no time in the near future.)
E: “Well maybe a Halloween costume.”
Me: “Oh, okay, that sounds perfect, I have lots of those. What time should I come?”
E: “Just come to my house at midnight in 6 days.”
Somehow, I have a feeling that showing up in a Halloween costume at midnight might not be well received.

Today, we had a little free time between reading groups and the kids asked me to read them a story. The book was “Pinkalicious”. (And FYI, If you have 5-7 year old boys who think stuff like this is hilarious, the book does show the cartoon little girl shirtless. And yes, she has nipples. I caught a few little boys looking through it and being naughty- the naughtiest was “kissing” the book and shrieking “I kissed her boobies!” Oh dear.
Anyway, the little girl eats too many cupcakes, turns and turns pink. One little boy was rather appalled at this prospect. “But she could take off her pink skin!” he exclaimed nervously. “No, I don’t think she could, I think that might hurt,” I told him. (The character “cures” herself by eating only green foods.) “Well, I would peel off that yucky pink skin until I got to my normal white skin.” was his reply. It was just cute because he was so vehement about not having pink skin. For the record, I love pink, but would not care for pink skin either.
I think that’s about it…we also had our Valentine’s Day party today, and they were buck wild from excitement and sugar, but it was ok because honestly, they are 5 and have never done this before, so it was a big hairy deal. They each got to eat 2 pieces of pizza, chips, a cupcake, and have coke to drink. Then they got to pass out Valentines and wear red Mardi Gras beads, so they were in heaven by the time they went home.
So that’s this weeks kindergarten cuteness!
