By now, we all know that Miss Mayzie-Jane is my pride and joy. She’s wicked smart, and sooooo cute.
Here is photographic evidence of her cuteness:

This was taken right after she was groomed…it’s a cell phone picture, but one of my favorites because I think she looks really happy…and the bandanna was adorable!
Any way Mayzie-Jane= Smart and Cute. But also strange. She is really finicky about things.
For example, my mom and I rearranged some furniture about a month ago. We think it looks a lot better, but MJ did NOT like it. It changed the way she had to walk through the living room to get to the couch…so she just started avoiding the living room. It was almost like she thought if she held out long enough, we would move it back. But since it looked so much better, I wasn’t budging. Finally, she either got used to it or reconciled herself to the fact that it wasn’t going anywhere, and started sitting in the living room again.
Her latest persnickety thing is the couch. Mayzie is not one of those dogs that isn’t allowed to sit on the furniture or anything like that. Nooo, it’s more like she sits on the furniture and occasionally allows us to sit with her. Her favorite spot to sit is on the end of the couch, curled into the corner. She has a little blanket there to sit on, and that is where she keeps her favorite stuffed cat. She’s been sitting in the same spot on that couch for a few years now, and everyone knows that is her spot, we don’t sit there.
Lately though, she has not wanted to sit there….she wants to sit at the top of the stairs and look down. My dad theorized that she wants to be able to look down and see everyone, but I’m not convinced. I don’t know why that spot is so appealing, but she goes there and sits in the exact same spot everyday. (She sheds, so we can tell she’s been sitting in the exact same spot because of the fur evidence. ) She will come and sit on the couch when you call her, but if you leave the living room, she goes back to that spot at the top of the stairs.
I’m not sure what makes one spot better than another, the only thing I can think of that is different is that I took the slipcover off to wash and haven’t gotten it put back on yet. I didn’t realize that the couch underneath was so offensive, but she really does not like for things to be different. (As of right now, she is sitting on her usual couch spot, though.)
The other thing she is really funny about is this floor lamp by the end of the couch. If you so much as touch it with the tip of your finger, she stalks off. If you accidentally rattle it by walking by, she scoots to the other end of the couch. No one has ever figured that one out.
She is weird sometimes, but she is mine, and I love her.
